Windsor police dealt with numerous collisions early Saturday morning as black ice made roads extremely dangerous. Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., officers responded to several weather-related crashes along the E.C. Row Expressway, particularly between Huron Church Road and Central Avenue, as well as in the area of Provincial Road and Walker Road.
The icy conditions caused major traction issues for both drivers and emergency responders. During the response, a police cruiser was rear-ended on the expressway near Walker Road. Everyone involved stayed at the scene, and one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Because of the hazardous conditions and the volume of incidents, authorities temporarily shut down the expressway in both directions while crews worked to clear the crashes.
