A serious two-vehicle collision has shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 in downtown Ottawa on Thursday afternoon. The crash occurred around 11:55 a.m. near Nicholas Street in the left lane. According to OPP Const. Michael Fathi, the highway will remain closed for an undetermined period as police investigate.
The incident involved a rear-end collision, causing one vehicle to hit a guardrail and come to rest across the fast lane. One driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Traffic is heavily congested from Metcalfe to Woodroffe Avenue, and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
