Toronto police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision in North York that claimed the life of a 90-year-old driver on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Bathurst Street and Danby Avenue around 4:45 p.m. after a silver Nissan travelling southbound on Bathurst Street left the roadway and struck a tree.
The elderly driver was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The collision also caused a hydro pole to be knocked down, bringing wires into the area. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to lose control. The circumstances surrounding the crash remains under investigation.
