A 91-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Whitby on Monday morning.
Durham police responded to the collision around 8:35 a.m. near Taunton Road East and McKinney Drive, east of Brock Street North.
Police say a 44-year-old man was driving a Honda south on McKinney Drive when he made a left turn toward Taunton Road East. During the turn, the vehicle struck the senior, who was travelling north through the crosswalk on a mobility scooter.
The injured man was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. His injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening.
The driver stayed at the scene and spoke with investigators. Members of the Collision Investigation Unit examined the area, and the roadway remained closed for several hours as officers gathered evidence.
