York Regional Police report that an elderly woman has died after a house fire in Newmarket early Friday.
Officers were called to Kirby Crescent shortly after 6:30 a.m. The woman was pulled from the home and transported to hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Two adult men were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police say the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze alongside Central York Fire Services. Authorities have indicated there is no evidence of foul play.
The fire has been extinguished, but the cause remains undetermined. Officers stayed at the scene while the investigation continued, and a temporary road closure on Kirby Crescent at Alex Doner Drive has since been lifted.
