A three-alarm fire at an industrial bakery in Etobicoke sent heavy smoke into the air Thursday afternoon after flames spread from an oven to the building’s roof.
Toronto Fire Services responded to the facility near Carlingview Drive and Attwell Drive after an employee reported an oven fire around 4:15 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find significant smoke and flames, forcing crews to transition to aerial operations to attack the blaze from above.
About 50 employees inside the building at the time safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters brought the main portion of the fire under control and continued working to extinguish remaining hot spots on the roof. Officials said a fire watch could remain in place for at least 24 hours.
The cause and circumstances surrounding the fire have not yet been determined.
