Community members in Mississauga are rallying around the family of 13-year-old Leandro Santos, who was struck and killed by a GO Transit train during March Break.
Friends and supporters describe the teen, affectionately known as Leo, as kind and devoted to his mother. In the wake of his death, many have begun sharing the phrase “Live Like Leo” online as a way to honour his memory. A growing memorial has also formed near the tracks in the Lakeview neighbourhood.
A close family friend has launched a fundraiser to help Santos’ mother cover funeral costs, take time off work, and access counselling. The campaign has already raised more than $22,500, reflecting strong community support. Santos lived in Oakville and had been staying with his father at the time of the incident.
Authorities say Metrolinx is handling the investigation related to the train, while Peel Regional Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
