A York Region family escaped injury after their pickup truck caught fire while travelling northbound on Highway 400 Sunday afternoon.

The driver noticed electrical issues shortly after other motorists alerted the family that the vehicle was on fire, prompting them to pull over and evacuate safely. Before flames spread further, a passerby used a fire extinguisher to slow the blaze, allowing the family to retrieve their belongings.

King Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene between King Road and Aurora Road around 4:40 p.m. Firefighters found the truck’s engine compartment fully engulfed, with flames extending into the cab, but brought the fire under control within minutes.

No injuries were reported. The family expressed gratitude to the Good Samaritan whose quick actions helped prevent a more serious outcome.
