A fatal collision involving a fuel tanker and a passenger vehicle has prompted a major highway closure near Leslie Street.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. According to police, the passenger vehicle had become disabled in a live westbound lane of Highway 407 and was stationary with the driver still inside when it was struck by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the car, a 37-year-old man from Toronto, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was not physically injured.

As investigators examine the scene, all northbound and southbound ramps from Highway 404 to the westbound lanes of Highway 407 have been closed. Traffic heading westbound on Highway 407 toward Highway 404 is being diverted. Police say the westbound lanes are expected to remain shut down for several hours.
