A 31-year-old man has been charged following a deadly head-on collision in Ottawa’s west end on Wednesday evening.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Carling Avenue near Ullswater Drive, involving a passenger van and a sedan. A 52-year-old Ottawa woman, employed as a Health Canada security contractor, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in her vehicle.

Ottawa police have charged Vicente Ramos, 31, with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death. Paramedics treated two people at the scene, including a man taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate, examining the vehicles and the scene to determine contributing factors. Carling Avenue was closed between Moodie Drive and Ullswater Drive during the investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information, dashcam footage, or surveillance video to contact the Ottawa Police Service’s Fatal Collision Investigation Unit.
