Two people were killed in a head-on collision Tuesday evening on Highway 144 in Sudbury, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m Tuesday. and involved a pickup truck and a minivan near Forest Ridge Road. Police identified the victims as a 58-year-old woman from Capreol and a 53-year-old man from Sudbury. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger from one of the vehicles was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

OPP collision investigation and reconstruction teams are assisting as officers work to determine what caused the crash. Highway 144 was shut down in both directions for nearly eight hours while emergency crews and investigators responded.
