Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a deadly multi-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Highway 11 near Smooth Rock Falls.
Police say officers responded around 5:30 a.m. after receiving reports of several vehicles involved in a collision between Red Pine Road and Lookout Road. When they arrived, investigators determined that five vehicles were directly involved in the crash.
Authorities also reported that three additional vehicles were involved in separate secondary collisions in the same area.
One person died at the scene, while another suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The crash forced the closure of Highway 11 between Cochrane and Hearst for several hours as police and emergency responders investigated. The highway reopened later Saturday evening.
