A fatal crash on Highway 401 in Kingston early Friday morning claimed the life of the driver of a pickup truck. The collision occurred around 3 a.m. near the Highway 15 interchange, when the pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes just before the crash. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had received a report of the truck’s unusual driving shortly before the incident.
The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, though their identity has not been released. The driver of the transport truck involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes of Highway 401, between Highway 31 in Gananoque and Montreal Street in Kingston, were closed for several hours as OPP officers, including collision reconstructionists, investigated the scene. The highway reopened just before 1:30 p.m.
