A fatal head-on collision near Pembroke on Monday has left one person dead and another injured.
Ontario Provincial Police say the crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. on Highway 17 near Paul Martin Drive, involving a car and an SUV traveling in opposite directions. Emergency crews, including paramedics and local firefighters, responded to the scene.
A 94-year-old Ottawa man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver, a 32-year-old from Laurentian Valley, was taken to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Both vehicles had no passengers.
The collision forced the closure of Highway 17 for nearly eight hours as investigators examined the scene. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are overseeing the investigation, which will include an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are asking anyone with information to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
