A 34-year-old woman was seriously injured Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Toronto’s west end, with the driver leaving the scene.
Toronto police responded shortly after 8:36 p.m. at the intersection of Lansdowne Avenue and Brandon Avenue. The woman was crossing Lansdowne Avenue at the marked pedestrian crossover when she was hit by a vehicle travelling southbound. Paramedics transported the woman to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The driver involved fled before police arrived. Investigators are looking for a white hatchback vehicle that may have sustained windshield damage in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
Update – On Sept. 11, police announced that the hit-and-driver has surrendered. 52-year-old Joao Cabral has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision causing bodily harm, obstructing justice, careless driving causing bodily harm or death, and driving without a valid licence.
