A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a six-storey apartment building in Guelph, causing significant damage to multiple units. Emergency crews responded around 4 p.m. to 265 Westwood Road, where the blaze had started in a top-floor unit. The apartment was unoccupied at the time, and firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within half an hour.
Residents were evacuated as a precaution, with police securing the area to prevent re-entry during the operation. While no injuries were reported, the unit where the fire originated sustained major damage. Several nearby units were also affected, leaving multiple tenants displaced due to both fire and water damage. The cause of the fire and the extent of the financial loss remain undetermined.
