A fire that broke out Tuesday evening in Ottawa’s ByWard Market area has been brought under control, according to Ottawa Fire Services. Crews responded to the scene around 6:35 p.m. on Guigues Avenue, between Dalhousie Street and Parent Avenue, after smoke was seen rising from the roof of a two-storey home under construction.

Firefighters conducted two searches of the building and confirmed no one was inside. Victim Services were called to assist, though no injuries were reported, according to paramedics. The fire was contained by 7:21 p.m.

Ottawa Police temporarily closed southbound Dalhousie Street at Guigues Avenue and advised the public to stay clear of the area during firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
