A two-alarm residential fire broke out Saturday night in Etobicoke, prompting a large response from Toronto Fire crews. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on St. George’s Road, near Dundas Street West and Royal York Road. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames and thick smoke coming from the second floor and roof of a two-storey home.
Firefighters initially launched an interior attack but were forced to switch strategies after discovering structural damage on the second floor and significant fire spreading through the attic and roof. The blaze caused part of the roof to collapse, though the rest of the structure remained stable.
Residents were able to escape on their own before emergency crews arrived and were checked by paramedics at the scene, with no injuries reported. As a precaution, nearby homes were evacuated while crews worked to contain the fire.
Although the main fire was brought under control, firefighters stayed on site to deal with remaining hotspots. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
