A head-on collision near Ariss on Tuesday night has left five people injured and sent them to the hospital.

Wellington County OPP reported that the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on Wellington Road 86, between Eighth Line East and Sideroad 16 in Guelph-Eramosa Township. Emergency crews found an SUV and a sedan severely damaged at the scene.

The drivers and passengers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, except for a 16-year-old passenger, who suffered life-altering injuries.

The SUV was occupied by a 47-year-old from Woolwich Township, while the sedan carried three children and one adult from Palmerston. The adult was 37, and the children were aged 16, 15, and 6, according to Const. Matthew Burton.

Wellington Road 86 was closed for several hours, but has now reopened. Police are asking anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. The investigation is ongoing.
