A serious two-vehicle collision in Ottawa’s south end on Saturday evening left an elderly woman fighting for her life and sent two others to hospital.
Emergency crews responded around 6:12 p.m. to the intersection of Barnsdale Road and Trail Road near Highway 416, where seven people were involved in what officials described as a high-speed crash.
Paramedics assessed four individuals at the scene. Three required hospitalization: a woman in her 70s sustained life-threatening, multiple-trauma injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre; a woman in her 30s was taken to the same facility in serious but stable condition; and a teenage girl with minor injuries was transported to CHEO in stable condition.
Another woman received treatment on-site and did not need further care.
Police have closed Barnsdale Road in both directions between Borrisokane and Trail roads and are urging drivers to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
