Thursday morning commuters in Ottawa faced major delays after multiple crashes along Highway 417.
Light freezing rain overnight created slippery conditions across the city, with a weather warning in effect from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. The hazardous roads contributed to several collisions during the early morning commute.
Ontario Provincial Police advised drivers to avoid a stretch of Highway 417 between Innes Road and the Vanier Parkway due to ongoing incidents, warning of heavy congestion while emergency crews handled investigations and cleanup.
Crashes were reported in several areas, including eastbound lanes near St. Laurent Boulevard shortly before 7 a.m., westbound at Cyrville Road, and near Belfast between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Another incident occurred in the eastbound lanes around the Carling and Kirkwood area.
