A 44-year-old North York man has died after a garbage truck rollover on Highway 401 near Port Union Road Sunday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say the single-vehicle crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the westbound lanes as the truck approached the Port Union area.
Investigators report the vehicle rolled over and the driver was ejected during the incident. The truck came to rest across multiple lanes, blocking traffic. The driver was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
No other vehicles were involved, and the circumstances leading up to the crash have not yet been determined.
Westbound collector lanes were closed for several hours while police investigated and later reopened before 5 p.m.
