A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a van while rollerblading Thursday evening in Wellesley Township.
Emergency crews responded to Ament Line near Road 116, west of Elmira, just before 8 p.m. The child was taken to a hospital outside the region with life-threatening injuries.
Police said the van involved was a Chevrolet driven by a 71-year-old man from Huron County, who was not injured in the crash.
The road remained closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene before reopening Friday morning. Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage to come forward.
Update – On July 20, police say the 10-year-old girl has succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
