A four-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a car while crossing a residential street in Ajax on Tuesday evening.

Durham Regional Police responded to the collision at the intersection of Keith Wright Crescent and Gillett Drive at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 30. Investigators said the child was crossing Keith Wright Crescent when she was hit by a Honda Civic.

She was transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old driver and a 38-year-old passenger in the vehicle were not injured and remained at the scene while police investigated.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
