A 32-year-old Guelph man faces charges of impaired driving after crashing into a hydro pole on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. near Speedvale Avenue East and Delhi Street when a witness reported a white Lincoln Navigator driving erratically. The vehicle then went over the curb and struck a hydro pole.
Dash cam footage showed the driver attempting to reverse and flee the scene. When police arrived, they noted signs of impairment, including the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The man was arrested and taken to the station, where further tests confirmed his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
In addition to the impaired driving charge, the man was also charged with driving without insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
