Hanover police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian that occurred around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday on 7th Avenue near the entrance to Hanover Park.
Police say 66-year-old Sheila Lamont of Hanover was struck by a northbound vehicle while crossing the street. The driver fled the scene at high speed, continuing north on Bruce County Road 10 and then west on Concession 4 in former Brant Township.
Lamont was transported to Hanover and District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators have identified the suspect vehicle as a red 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser with Ontario licence plate CKPR 013. The car is expected to have front-end and windshield damage.
Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
Update – Police have identified the hit-and-run suspect as 33-year-old Codie Bloom. He is wanted for dangerous driving causing death, failing to remain at the scene of a fatal collision, and arson. Authorities believe he may have ties to Grey, Bruce, Huron, and Wellington counties
