Two people were killed in a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 144 south of Cartier, Ontario, on Saturday afternoon. The collision, which occurred around 1:15 p.m., involved a vehicle occupied by a 65-year-old and a 69-year-old from Sudbury.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from their vehicle, along with the driver of the second vehicle, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Emergency services, including Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Greater Sudbury Fire Services, and EMS, responded to the incident. Highway 144 was closed in both directions between Windy Lake Provincial Park Road and Cartier for over nine hours while authorities investigated.

The highway fully reopened shortly before 10 p.m. Authorities advised drivers to use Old Cartier Road (Old Highway 544) as a detour.
