A 19-year-old man is facing charges after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision that followed an alleged street race in east Windsor Sunday night.

Windsor police were called to Tecumseh Road East and Princess Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. after a pedestrian was struck. Investigators allege two vehicles were travelling eastbound and racing when one hit a 62-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road. Police say the driver did not remain at the scene, while the driver of the second vehicle initially left before returning.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

About an hour later, officers located and arrested the suspect at a residence on Juliet Crescent. Gorge Nadeem Dkhee, 19, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and failing to stop after an accident causing death.

Tecumseh Road East was closed for several hours as police investigated the collision. The roadway reopened shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Update – On Oct. 1, the 17-year-old driver of the second vehicle surrendered to police. The youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces a charge of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
