Windsor Police Service have laid multiple charges against a 30-year-old man following a hit-and-run that left a cyclist seriously hurt.
The collision occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Howard Avenue. Investigators determined that a northbound vehicle, allegedly travelling at high speed, struck the cyclist before the driver fled the area. The injured rider was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police later found the suspect vehicle on Edinborough Street, noting significant front-end damage, including a shattered windshield and a damaged grille. Officers reported signs of alcohol impairment when speaking with the driver, such as the smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and unsteady balance. He was arrested, brought to headquarters, and failed a breath test.
The accused now faces charges that include dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, and multiple impaired driving-related offences.
