Ontario Provincial Police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian seriously injured in Fergus late Saturday night.
Emergency responders were called to Wellington Road 18 near the Centre Wellington Sportsplex at approximately 11 p.m. after reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Investigators say a 26-year-old male pedestrian was hit by an eastbound dark-coloured pickup truck. The driver allegedly failed to stop and continued eastbound after the collision.
The victim was transported to a Hamilton-area hospital with serious injuries.
OPP traffic investigators remained at the scene Sunday as they examined the circumstances surrounding the crash. Road closures were in place during the investigation.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area between 10:45 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. to contact Wellington County OPP.
Update – The victim is identified by family as 26-year-old Irving Singh. He sustained extensive injuries affecting multiple parts of his body, including fractures and head trauma. His family reports that while his condition has stabilized, he remains seriously injured and is recovering day by day.
