A child is recovering in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the road to board a school bus Thursday morning in Harley Township, near Temiskaming Shores.

The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Highway 569. According to Ontario Provincial Police, the school bus had its stop-arm extended and lights flashing when the child was struck. The driver of the dark-coloured sedan involved did not remain at the scene and is now being sought by police. The vehicle may have front-end damage.

Authorities are asking anyone with dash cam footage or information to contact the OPP.
