A house fire Thursday morning in North Bay caused extensive damage to a residence, though all occupants managed to escape safely.
Emergency crews from three stations responded to the blaze around 8:45 a.m. at a rowhouse on Sylvan Crescent. According to Greg Saunders, firefighters arrived within six minutes and encountered intense flames and thick black smoke visible from kilometres away.
Residents were alerted by the home’s fire alarms and evacuated before crews arrived. After escaping, they contacted emergency services and warned neighbouring units, allowing nearby residents and their pets to leave safely as well.
One resident was taken to hospital with minor injuries but was later released. The unit where the fire began was destroyed, but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading significantly to adjacent homes.
Officials say the fire started in the kitchen and is currently under investigation, though it is not believed to be suspicious.
