One person was critically injured in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Whitby early Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police reported the crash prompted a complete shutdown of the eastbound lanes between Thickson Road and Stevenson Road starting around 7:40 a.m.
The closure remained in effect for much of the day, causing traffic delays that stretched back to Brock Street South. Police advised drivers to use alternate routes, including Victoria Street East, Consumers Drive, and Dundas Street East.
Investigators later confirmed the scene was cleared just before 3 p.m., allowing all eastbound lanes to reopen. The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.
