A 22-year-old from Richards Landing is facing impaired and dangerous driving charges after a rollover crash on St. Joseph Island left a passenger seriously injured.

Ontario Provincial Police, paramedics and fire crews responded to the single-vehicle collision around 8:10 p.m. on July 19 along Highway 548 between A Line Road and Hilton Road. Officers found a grey pickup truck on its side in a ditch.

Police said the passenger was taken to North Shore Health Network in Richards Landing before being transferred to Sault Area Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators determined the driver had consumed alcohol and took him to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service detachment for further testing.

The driver has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Sept. 3.
