A 49-year-old Elmira man is facing impaired and dangerous driving charges after allegedly fleeing a collision and later entering a Guelph McDonald’s drive-thru through the exit.
Guelph police were called to the restaurant at Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road shortly before midnight Sunday after staff reported a heavily damaged vehicle travelling through the drive-thru in the wrong direction.
Officers arrived and blocked the vehicle in. Police allege the driver had earlier rear-ended an SUV at Victoria Road North and Eramosa Road before leaving the scene.
Police said the man showed signs of impairment, including an odour of alcohol and difficulty standing. Breath testing later indicated he was over the legal limit.
The suspect was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident.
Investigators are also looking into whether the vehicle was involved in another collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Guelph police.
