A 25-year-old Sudbury man is facing several impaired driving charges after a crash in North Bay disabled traffic lights at a major intersection over the weekend.

Emergency crews, including Ontario Provincial Police, North Bay police, paramedics and fire services, responded to the collision at Highway 11/17 and Fisher Street around 4:45 a.m. on June 6. Investigators said a vehicle struck a traffic light pole, leaving the intersection signals out of service.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While investigating the crash, officers observed signs of possible alcohol impairment and arrested the motorist.

Police charged the man with three impaired driving-related offences, including operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and driving with alcohol in his system as a novice driver.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in a North Bay court on July 7.
