A kayaker was rescued from the Ottawa River’s rapids on Sunday after falling into the water. Ottawa Fire Services responded to a 911 call around 3:07 p.m., reporting the incident near Bate Island on Island Park Drive.
Upon reaching the scene, crews found the kayaker roughly 100 feet from shore. The Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Team was deployed to assist in the rescue. Ottawa Paramedic Service, along with Ottawa police and Gatineau firefighters, also responded to the emergency.
The man was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition and showed signs of hypothermia.
