A 38-year-old Kenora man faces charges after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and crashing into a hotel on Lakeview Drive around 1 a.m. on May 4.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the driver fled on foot into a wooded area but was later apprehended by officers with help from a K9 unit and emergency response team. He was taken to the Kenora detachment for further testing, where police confirmed drug impairment.

He has been charged with impaired driving and failing to report an accident. As a result, his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven. The man has been released and is scheduled to appear in court in Kenora on June 5.

The OPP emphasizes its ongoing efforts to remove drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers from the roads and encourages the public to call 911 if impaired driving is suspected.
