A 21-year-old Kitchener man has been arrested after allegedly driving recklessly and fleeing from police late Thursday night. Around 11:20 p.m., an officer spotted a vehicle doing donuts in a parking lot near Ottawa Street North and River Road East.
When approached, the driver sped off, and police did not pursue for safety reasons. Shortly afterward, the same vehicle crashed into a hydro pole, and witnesses reported the driver fleeing on foot and jumping fences to evade arrest.
The man surrendered to police the following day and now faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving, fleeing from police, performing a stunt, careless driving, and failing to remain or report an accident.
