A major fire broke out overnight at an industrial site in downtown Bowmanville, specifically at the former Goodyear Lands located at 45 Raynes Avenue.
Clarington Emergency and Fire Services responded shortly after midnight on Monday to find heavy smoke and large flames coming from the building’s roof. The structure, which was unoccupied, partially collapsed on its north side due to the intensity of the fire.
The blaze has since been brought under control, with no injuries reported and no spread to nearby buildings. Fire crews remain on scene to manage hotspots and monitor smoke, which is currently minimal. However, parts of the building remain unstable, and residents are advised to avoid the area for safety.
Durham Regional Police assisted with traffic control and the evacuation of some nearby homes. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is assessing air and water quality at the site. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
