The Town of LaSalle is reminding dog owners to keep their pets on a leash when off their property, following an increase in complaints about dogs running loose. The town announced on X that stricter enforcement, including ticketing, will be implemented to address the issue.
Rob Sassine, Supervisor of Bylaw Enforcement, explained that it’s required by the animal control bylaw to keep dogs on a leash no longer than six feet when off-property. He emphasized that off-leash dogs could create dangerous situations, posing risks to other dogs and residents.
While the town encourages dog owners to use the designated dog park at the Vollmer Recreation Complex, they remind everyone to keep dogs on leashes in other public areas. The fine for not having a dog on a leash is $355.
Sassine noted that several complaints have come from the Vollmer Complex, especially during sports events with families and children present. A few penalty notices have already been issued to violators.
In addition, LaSalle is reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets. The fine for failing to do so is $205.
