Two people and three dogs were rescued after a two-alarm fire broke out in a sixth-floor apartment at a Regent Park high-rise apartment on Thursday afternoon.
Toronto police and fire crews responded to 222 Oak Street, near River Street, at approximately 1:40 p.m. The blaze, which was reportedly sparked by a lithium-ion battery, was quickly brought under control.
Toronto Paramedic Services assessed two people at the scene, but neither required hospital transport. No other injuries were reported.
At least three fire-damaged e-bikes were found on the building’s front lawn and secured behind a police cordon. Authorities have not confirmed whether the bikes were connected to the fire.
Roads temporarily closed during the investigation have since reopened.
