A 21-year-old Sarnia man is facing multiple criminal charges, including attempted murder, following a series of incidents involving a former friend on Jan. 10.
Sarnia police were first called around 12:10 a.m. to a disturbance at a home in the 1200 block of Afton Drive after an argument between the accused and 40-year-old Steve Marche. During that dispute, police allege the suspect drove a red Mitsubishi SUV onto the victim’s lawn and deliberately struck Marche’s e-bike, damaging it.
Later that night, just after midnight, police say the same vehicle entered Marche’s townhouse complex and again struck his e-bike, which was parked outside his home. Investigators allege the suspect exited the vehicle carrying a metal pipe before leaving the area.
The situation escalated further around 1:45 p.m. when the suspect allegedly returned, leading to another confrontation during which Marche was run over by the vehicle. Police video footage reportedly shows the SUV reversing and driving over the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Marche survived the incident after falling between a curb and a pole, which prevented the full weight of the vehicle from crushing him. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering at home.
The accused remains in custody and is charged with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a conveyance, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence related to the incidents.
