A 39-year-old Greater Sudbury man is facing multiple charges after police say he crashed a stolen vehicle and fled the scene last week.
Greater Sudbury Police Service said the collision happened around 11:10 a.m. on Aug. 7 on The Kingsway. One of the drivers reportedly left the area on foot before officers arrived. Police searched nearby but initially could not locate the suspect.
Investigators later identified the man through surveillance footage and determined the vehicle involved had been reported stolen earlier that morning.
Police said officers spotted the suspect in the downtown area later that day and arrested him without incident. A search following the arrest allegedly uncovered a quantity of suspected fentanyl.
The accused, who was also on probation at the time, faces charges including possession of a controlled substance, motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to report an accident, driving without a licence and breaching probation.
He was held in custody overnight and appeared in bail court over the weekend.
