A 56-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Sudbury police stopped a vehicle involved in erratic driving and a hit-and-run on Saturday. Officers received several 911 calls about a driver swerving on MR35 and learned the same vehicle had been in a collision where the motorist failed to remain.
Police located the car at Elm Street and Big Nickel Mine Road and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and was found to be uninsured. After his arrest, officers discovered an open bottle of alcohol, and subsequent testing showed he was more than three times over the legal limit.
He is charged with impaired driving, failing to remain at a collision, careless driving, and operating a vehicle without insurance. The man was released with a Dec. 24 court date.
In a separate incident the same day, a single-vehicle crash on Big Nickel Mine Road sent four people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and briefly closed the roadway.
