A 54-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving a stolen U-Haul truck into several Hamilton police cruisers and a residential building while trying to evade officers early Tuesday.
Police say an officer spotted the truck near Main Street East and Glendale Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and discovered through a licence plate check that it had been reported stolen from Halton Region.
As additional officers arrived, the driver attempted to flee, nearly hitting an officer before crashing into three marked police vehicles. The pursuit ended when the truck slammed into the fire escape of a nearby residential building.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.
