A 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a dangerous driving incident at the Ambassador Bridge on Friday injured a Windsor police officer and a Canada Border Services Agency officer.
Police were called to the bridge at around 2:30 p.m. after the driver allegedly bypassed border inspection procedures and failed to stop. When officers approached him, he reportedly became combative, refused to leave his vehicle and then drove away.
The fleeing vehicle struck several barriers before overturning. The suspect then ran from the crash but was arrested nearby a short time later.
Both officers were struck during the incident and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
The incident caused significant traffic delays at the Ambassador Bridge. The investigation is continuing.
