A 51-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after a fire broke out inside an eighth-floor apartment in Toronto’s Junction-Wallace Emerson neighbourhood.
Firefighters were called to a high-rise near Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street early Tuesday morning after reports of heavy smoke coming from an upper-level unit. Crews located the fire and quickly brought it under control.
The man, who was alone in the apartment, suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation. Paramedics transported him to a specialized burn centre for treatment.
Firefighters remained at the building to ventilate the affected areas and check on other residents. No additional injuries were reported, and the fire was confined to the apartment where it started. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
