A 39-year-old man, Gary Walker — who is under a Canada-wide driving prohibition — faces multiple charges after allegedly causing a series of drug-impaired hit-and-run crashes in Mississauga on June 12.

According to police, numerous 911 calls were made reporting a pickup truck driving erratically near Dixie Road and the QEW. Officers quickly located the truck driving north in the southbound lanes of Dixie Road. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect sped away.

During the pursuit, Walker allegedly drove on sidewalks, collided with multiple vehicles, and exceeded double the posted speed limit. Due to the danger he posed, police continued the pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a pole, disabling the truck. He then reportedly attempted to carjack another vehicle but was apprehended on the scene. Investigators later determined the truck was stolen and fitted with counterfeit plates.

Walker, who has no fixed address, now faces nine criminal charges, including:

  • Impaired operation by drugs
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Robbery

Police revealed that Walker has nine provincial driving bans dating back to 2003 and has multiple past convictions for impaired and suspended driving. His nationwide driving ban has been in place since 2012. He was denied bail and remains in custody.

Authorities believe there may be more victims and are requesting any dashcam footage from the public.
