A man is in critical condition following a collision between an SUV and a dump truck early Monday morning in Ottawa’s south end.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 4300 block of Hawthorne Road, just south of Leitrim Road. Emergency crews found the SUV in a ditch with the driver trapped inside.
Ottawa firefighters stabilized the vehicle and used specialized tools to remove both driver’s side doors and the roof before performing a dash lift to safely extricate the man. He was the sole occupant of the SUV.
Paramedics transported him to hospital with critical injuries.
